Learning to Fly
So, you want to learn how to fly a Radio Controlled Aircraft. You have come to the right place!
If you have never flown before and would like to find out a bit more, the first thing to do is to contact the Secretary, and arrange a suitable time to meet someone at the flying field. To simply take a look, you are welcome to come out to the field and look. While there, you can ask any of the members present they will be more than happy to share their enthusiasm for the hobby and will try and assist you.
There is generally a good turnout of members at the field on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. Instructors can assist new members to learn to fly safely and to achieve their Bronze wings. Bronze wings are a minimum level qualification that recognizes that you can safely fly your RC aircraft unassisted.
Before you rush out and buy a model, you should come out to the field and ask a few questions. One of the questions you may want to consider is what sort of model should I buy? All too frequently, we see people buy a model that is not suitable for learning how to fly with. You may want a high wing trainer as your first model.
Our flying field is closed on days of Total Fire Bans.
Below is a downloadable file explaining the basic principles of flight to help you to understand the process of getting your plane into the air.
